Complete Dentures

Dentures are a removable replacement for missing teeth, and complete dentures are used when all of your natural teeth are missing. They are designed to closely resemble your natural teeth, visibly improving your smile and filling out your facial appearance.

At SmileMint Studio, our prosthodontists have been designing and creating dentures suited to their patient’s needs. They use the highest quality materials to give dentures a natural appearance and function like normal teeth.

Types of Complete Dentures

Complete dentures can be either conventional or immediate. Conventional dentures are made after the teeth have been removed and the gum tissue has begun to heal. We usually place these dentures in the mouth about 8 to 12 weeks after removing the teeth.

We design the immediate dentures in advance and position them as soon as the teeth are removed. This way, you don’t have to be without teeth during the healing period. However, bones and gum shrink as they heal, so you might be stepping into our dental clinic frequently to get your dentures adjusted.

We recommend considering immediate dentures as a temporary solution and should be used till conventional dentures are made for you.

The Process of Designing Your Dentures

The process of developing your dentures takes a few weeks and several appointments. Our prosthodontists will determine the best denture for you by following these steps:

  1. They will first make a series of impressions of your jaw and measure how your jaws relate to each other and how much space is there between them.
  2. They will then create models in the exact shape and position of the denture to be made. They will ask you to try the model several times to assess the color, shape, and fit before casting the final denture.
  3. They will design the final dentures.
  4. They will adjust accordingly where necessary.

How Do New Dentures Feel?

New dentures may feel odd or loose in those initial days, but this is until the cheek and tongue muscles learn to keep them in place. With practice, you also get comfortable inserting and removing them.

It is perfectly normal to have minor irritation or soreness with an increase in the saliva flow when you first start wearing them. But these problems will diminish as you adjust to your new dentures.
